Rug Odour Removal & Sanitising Adelaide

A rug that smells is a rug full of something — damp, smoke, old food, a previous owner’s dog, years of feet. Spraying it only buys a few days. We take the cause out with a full extraction clean, then sanitise and deodorise so the room smells of nothing at all, which is the point.

STAINS · PET ODOUR · GRIME RESCUED

Grit, stains and pet smells — lifted out of the rug, not covered up.

The smells we see most

Pet urine specifically has its own enzyme treatment and its own page — if the smell is sharp and ammonia-like, start there.

What sanitising adds to a clean

The clean itself does most of the work: hot water extraction flushes out the oils, skin flakes, food and dust that bacteria feed on, which is where most odours actually come from. Sanitise and deodorise (+$30 per rug) then applies a hospital-grade, low-residue antimicrobial through the pile and a deodoriser that neutralises rather than perfumes. It is the right add-on for anything second-hand, anything a baby crawls on, and anything that has had a sick household on it. We do not use heavy fragrances — a sanitised rug should smell like clean fabric, not a car freshener.

Mould and mildew are different

If the musty smell comes with grey or black spotting, stiff patches or a rug that has been wet for days, that is mould, and it needs the mould and mildew treatment rather than a deodoriser. Surface mildew on a synthetic rug is usually recoverable; a rug that has been soaked and left in a damp room for weeks often is not, and we will tell you which yours is.

Common questions

Sanitising & odour removal — questions

Is the sanitiser safe for babies and pets?

Yes. We use a low-residue antimicrobial applied through the pile and extracted, not left sitting on the surface, and no heavy fragrance. Keep little ones off the rug until it is fully dry, usually 2–4 hours.

Can you get smoke smell out of a rug?

Usually, yes. Smoke is oily and sits in the fibres, so it responds well to hot water extraction with the right pre-spray, followed by a deodoriser that neutralises rather than masks. Very heavy, long-term smoke can leave a faint trace on a thick rug.

I bought a second-hand rug — should I get it sanitised?

We would. You do not know what it has had on it, and a full extraction clean plus sanitise and deodorise (+$30) resets it. Check the back for stiff or discoloured patches first — that can mean old urine, which needs the enzyme treatment instead.
