Pet Urine Rug Cleaning Adelaide

The rug is where the puppy had its accidents, where the old dog now sleeps, where the cat made a point. Urine dries into crystals that plain water and supermarket sprays do not dissolve, so the smell comes back every warm day and the dog goes back to the same corner. We break it down properly and get it out — and we tell you first if the backing has had too much.

Why the smell keeps returning

Urine is mostly water, which evaporates. What is left behind is urea, uric acid and salts, and uric acid crystals bind to the fibres and backing. They are not water-soluble, so mopping, steam and perfumed sprays leave them in place. Every humid day the crystals draw moisture from the air and release the smell again, and because a dog’s nose is far better than ours, it reads the spot as the toilet. The only thing that works is an enzyme that digests the uric acid, given enough time to do it, followed by proper extraction to flush the residue out.

Our pet urine treatment

The pet urine and odour treatment is +$40 per rug on top of the size price. Where a rug has been soaked repeatedly — the back is stiff, discoloured or smells on its own — heavy treatment is +$60–90 and we agree it with you before we start.

What we can and can’t fix

The smell: almost always gone, or down to a faint trace on the worst rugs. The stain: fresh urine comes out; old urine can permanently yellow a pale synthetic or cotton rug because it has altered the dye, and no cleaning changes that. Rubber or latex backings that have been saturated many times can hold odour that we cannot fully reach from either side; if that is what we find, we say so and you can decide whether the rug is worth the clean. A rug that has been a toilet for months may not be, and we would rather tell you than take your money.

Stopping the next one

Once the rug is genuinely clean the dog loses the scent marker, which is half the battle. For puppies and older dogs, a washable mat over the favourite corner for a few weeks helps. If a house-trained adult dog suddenly starts going on the rug, it is worth a vet visit — a urinary infection is a common cause. Cats that spray a rug are usually telling you something about stress or another cat; the rug clean removes the invitation to repeat it.

Common questions

Pet urine & odour — questions

Can you get dog urine smell out of a rug?

In most cases, yes. We use an enzyme treatment that digests the uric acid instead of covering it, then extract it through the rug. Repeatedly soaked rubber-backed rugs can keep a faint odour, and we tell you honestly before you pay.

Why does my rug smell worse after I cleaned it myself?

Water and heat reactivate the dried uric acid crystals and spread them without removing them, and many supermarket products add a fragrance that fades in days. The fix is enzyme with proper dwell time and extraction to get the residue out.

How much does pet urine rug cleaning cost in Adelaide?

The size price plus $40 — so a 2 × 3 m rug with pet urine treatment is $179. Heavy, repeated soaking is +$60–90 instead, agreed with you first. Every extra rug in the same visit is 10% off.
