Rug cleaning in Port Adelaide, SA 5015

Port Adelaide has changed more in the last decade than in the fifty before it. The heritage precinct around Lipson Street and Commercial Road still has its stone warehouses and pubs, but many of the warehouses are now lofts, and the waterfront has filled with apartment buildings looking over the Port River and its dolphins. Behind that, the side streets keep their small workers’ cottages and 1950s homes. It is a suburb of first-home buyers, renters, artists and long-time Port families, and a lot of concrete floors.

Loft and warehouse homes are polished concrete or wide old boards, and a rug is the only soft thing in a big room, so they tend to be large and bold. New apartments run to engineered boards and tiles with a rug under the lounge and a runner at the entry. The cottages have small rooms, so it is a hall runner and a medium rug in the front room, often on the original pine floors. Renters bring their own rugs from place to place, and rubber-backed mats sit at every door. These are polypropylene, cotton and machine-made rugs, and we clean them all where they lie.

Concrete and heritage boards are dusty floors, and that dust works up through a rug from underneath as well as down from above, so rugs here go grey evenly rather than in paths. River air is damp and salty, and in a poorly heated warehouse the rug is the thing that smells musty first. Entry runners take industrial grit from the footpaths and the wharves. Rentals change hands often, and bond cleans need a rug that looks presentable rather than one that has been shuffled under the furniture. Friday nights at the pubs on Commercial Road add the occasional dropped kebab and spilled beer to a lounge rug.

Hot water extraction suits these rugs because it rinses the dust out instead of pushing it around. On concrete we clean in place and the floor does not mind a bit of moisture; on old boards we keep the water low and pull it straight back out. A hall runner is $69 and a medium rug is $99, with the full price list on the site so a bond clean has no surprises. Musty rugs in a cold warehouse get extra extraction passes, and we advise on airflow so the rug dries properly rather than sitting damp on cold concrete. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.

Port Adelaide questions

Asked in Port Adelaide

I am moving out of a rental in Port Adelaide. Can you clean the rugs before the inspection?

Yes. We work 7 days, so we can fit around the inspection date, and we tell you before starting whether any mark will come out, so you know what the agent will see. If the rug belongs to the landlord and is wool or jute we will say so and suggest a specialist rather than take it on.

My warehouse apartment has polished concrete. Will cleaning a rug on it cause a problem?

No. Sealed concrete handles a little moisture from the edge of a rug without trouble, and we extract the water back out as we go. We lift the rug afterwards to check the slab underneath is dry. If your concrete is unsealed or stained, tell us and we will clean the rug on a tarp instead.

Services & guides

How it works

Our 5-step in-home rug clean

  1. 1

    Check the rug

We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.

  2. 2

    Dry vacuum both sides

Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.

  3. 3

    Pre-treat

A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.

  4. 4

    Hot water extraction

Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.

  5. 5

    Groom & dry

Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.

Questions

Straight answers

How much does rug cleaning cost in Adelaide?

We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.

Do you clean rugs in my home or take them away?

In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.

What kinds of rugs do you clean?

Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.

How long does a rug take to dry?

Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
