Grit, stains and pet smells — lifted out of the rug, not covered up.
Local service
Christies Beach is the working beach suburb of the south: Beach Road running down to the water, the Esplanade along the front, Witton Bluff at the northern end, and behind it all a grid of 1960s and 70s homes, many of them former Housing Trust, mixed with the fibro shacks that are being knocked down one by one for two-storey rebuilds and groups of units. It has long-term locals, retirees, young renters near the Beach Road shops, and a growing number of short-stay apartments within sight of the water.
The older homes have had their carpet pulled up for floating floors or tiles, and a rug now covers the main living space; the units and new builds are tiled throughout on a slab. Christies Beach rugs tend to be practical: a large polypropylene lounge rug, a bath mat or two with rubber backing, a runner inside the front door, and often a flatweave on the balcony or back patio. Short-stay places buy whatever survives guests, usually a synthetic flatweave. Outdoor rugs are common on the new rebuild balconies that face the gulf. Every one of those is a rug we clean on site.
Sand is constant, and in a unit without a yard there is nowhere to shake a rug out, so it builds up in the pile until the rug feels heavy. Salt air corrodes and dampens everything; a rug left on a tiled floor in a closed-up holiday unit over winter comes out smelling stale. Beachgoers in wet bathers sit on the lounge rug and the salt water dries into a stiff patch. In the older rentals, years of tenants, pets and the occasional cigarette leave a general odour the agent wants gone before the next lease, and a vacuum does not touch it.
We come to the unit or the house, dry vacuum the sand out from both sides, then run hot water extraction that lifts the salt, the sunscreen and the staleness in one pass and pulls the water straight back out. The sanitise and deodorise treatment at +$30 is the one we recommend most here, because it resets the smell of a closed-up beach place rather than covering it. Balcony rugs are done on the balcony. For rentals and short-stays we can do every rug in a single morning visit so the place is dry for the afternoon. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours, faster with the balcony door open to the sea breeze.

Christies Beach questions
Yes, that is exactly what in-home cleaning is for. We bring the machine to your unit, clean the rug on the tiles where it lies and extract the water out. There is nothing to carry anywhere. Lift one edge onto a chair afterwards for airflow and it will be dry within the afternoon.
In most cases, yes. The smell is usually sand, salt and sunscreen residue sitting in the pile, and hot water extraction removes it. We add sanitise and deodorise for closed-up holiday places, and we will tell you plainly if the backing has absorbed something that cleaning will not reach.
How it works
We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.
Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.
A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.
Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.
Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.
Questions
We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.
In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.
Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.
Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
A 2 × 3 m rug is $139 in Adelaide, cleaned in your home. 7 days a week.
