Grit, stains and pet smells — lifted out of the rug, not covered up.
Local service
Norwood sits just east of the Park Lands, with The Parade as its spine and Osmond Terrace and Kensington Road framing the residential streets either side. It was subdivided early, so the blocks are small and the housing is close-grained: bluestone and sandstone villas, rows of single-fronted cottages, 1970s brick unit groups, and townhouses filling in behind the shops. Norwood Oval and the swimming centre on The Parade anchor a suburb where young renters, couples who have renovated and families who have been there for decades live side by side.
Most Norwood cottages have had their boards sanded and sealed, and a rug is the compromise between a lovely floor and a cold one in July. Typical set-up: a 2 × 3 m machine-made rug in the lounge, a narrow runner down a hallway you can touch both walls of, and a small cotton rug beside the bed. Renovated villas with a rear extension usually have tiles or polished concrete in the new part, and a larger rug sits under the dining table or sectional. We clean all of those in place; a hand-knotted wool piece picked up from one of the antique shops on The Parade is one we will decline and refer on.
Small houses close to a busy strip mean everything comes through the front door quickly. Grit from The Parade footpaths, dog hair from a lap of the oval, and the wet shoes of friends over for dinner all land on the hall runner first. Lounge rugs in Norwood take red wine and takeaway more than most, and a pale rug under a dark couch shows it. Share houses near the swimming centre change tenants every year or two, and the rug stays behind, holding on to spills nobody remembers. Cottages with poor underfloor ventilation can also give a rug a damp smell by late winter.
We set up in the room and clean the rug without moving it off your boards, keeping the moisture low enough that the floor is dry when we lift the edge to check. Where a rug has sat on a damp floor, the sanitise and deodorise treatment at +$30 clears the musty smell at its source. Traffic lines on runners respond to pre-spray and extra passes, and we tell you straight before we begin if an old wine mark has permanently dyed the fibre. Dry time is 2–4 hours for most rugs, longer for cotton, and we can book a morning so the lounge is back together by evening. Doing the couch in the same visit is a question worth asking.

Norwood questions
Yes. The runner stays on the boards, we work along it in sections and extract as we go, and the hall is passable again within a couple of hours. If you prefer, we can roll it out onto the rear paving instead, but the in-place clean works well and protects the floor.
The day before is ideal. The rug is dry and back under the furniture well before guests arrive, and any treated spots have had time to settle. Same-day is possible when a morning slot is free, since most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours, but the day before takes the stress out of it.
How it works
We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.
Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.
A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.
Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.
Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.
Questions
We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.
In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.
Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.
Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
