Athelstone · SA 5076
Split-level homes on the slopes below Black Hill, the Gorge Road end of Linear Park and kangaroos at the back fence — in-home rug cleaning in Athelstone, where hills damp and hills dust both end up in the pile.
Grit, stains and pet smells — lifted out of the rug, not covered up.
Local service
Athelstone is where the Torrens comes out of its gorge and the suburbs start climbing: Black Hill Conservation Park rises straight behind the houses, Wadmore Park holds the bike trails, and Linear Park begins its run to the sea from the Gorge Road end. Most of it was built in the 1970s and 80s on sloping blocks, which means split-level brick homes, big double garages cut into the hill and rear decks with a view, with newer homes where the larger blocks have been divided.
Sloping blocks give Athelstone its floors. Lower levels are slab with tiles or slate, upper levels have boards or carpet, and the rumpus room downstairs has been carpeted, re-tiled and rugged at least once. Big open living areas on the slab have a large synthetic rug, often extra large, under the lounge suite; bedrooms upstairs have shag or cotton rugs; and the hall from the garage entry has a rubber-backed mat and a runner. Outdoor and indoor-outdoor rugs on the deck are common. Machine-made wool-look synthetics are the usual lounge choice and we clean those in place; a wool or hide rug we will leave to a specialist and say so when we see it.
Athelstone rugs face two seasons of trouble. In winter, water running down the slope keeps lower-level slabs cold and damp, and a rug on tiles down there develops a mildew smell and sometimes visible spotting on the back. In summer, fine dust from the dry hills and the conservation park comes in on every breeze and every pair of walking boots, settling deep in the pile. Mountain bikers back from Wadmore Park bring greasy chain marks and track mud. The big living-area rug sits between kitchen and deck and sees every barbecue, every spilled drink and every muddy child.
Downstairs rugs with the winter damp problem get the mould and mildew treatment at +$40, then a thorough hot water extraction that leaves the rug nearly dry, and we lift it to check the slab before we go. Summer dust is lifted out of the base of the pile by extraction in a way vacuuming cannot reach. Grease and track mud are pre-treated, light spots included. Extra large rugs up to 9 m² are $179, which covers most of the big living areas here. We can also take the rug onto the drive or the deck if you prefer the wet work outside. Drying is 2–4 hours in most cases, and we work 7 days, 7am–7pm.

Athelstone questions
Usually, if the spots are surface mildew rather than rot. We treat for mould and mildew, extract thoroughly and get it dry fast. If the backing has broken down we will tell you honestly, and we will suggest an underlay or lifting the rug during the wettest months so it does not come back.
Yes. Outdoor and indoor-outdoor rugs clean well with extraction and dry quickly in the open air. Doing them in the same visit as the lounge and bedroom rugs means every extra rug is 10% off, and we can do the lot in one morning.
How it works
We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.
Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.
A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.
Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.
Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.
Questions
We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.
In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.
Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.
Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
A 2 × 3 m rug is $139 in Adelaide, cleaned in your home. 7 days a week.
