Careful rug cleaning in Magill

Magill runs from the shops and cafés on Magill Road up into the first slopes of the hills, with Penfolds’ original vineyard still growing grapes above the houses and Morialta’s cliffs behind it all. The housing follows the slope: 1950s and 60s cream brick on the flat, bigger 1970s and 80s homes on the rising ground with views back over the city, and newer two-storey builds wherever a large block has been split.

Up the hill the houses are split-level or on slab with tiles and slate in the living areas, often with a sunken lounge that has had a rug in it since the day it was built. On the flat, the brick veneers have carpet in the bedrooms and tiles or floating boards through the kitchen and family room, with a large synthetic rug under the couch and a runner in the hall. Share houses closer to Magill Road tend to have a cheap polypropylene rug over worn carpet, bought with a bond in mind. We clean those in place. A wool or hand-knotted rug in a retiree’s formal room is one we will decline and refer to a specialist.

Hills soil is the Magill problem. The red-brown clay from the Morialta walking tracks and from unmade garden edges comes in on boots, dog paws and pram wheels and marks a pale rug in a way ordinary dirt does not. Winter rain running off the slope keeps the lower rooms damp, and a rug on slate in a sunken lounge can smell musty by the end of the season. Dogs who have run the Morialta trails sleep on the lounge rug afterwards. Students moving out of a share house in November need the rug looking like the inspection photos.

Red clay needs a proper pre-spray and patience rather than scrubbing, so we treat the soiled areas first, then run the hot water extraction pass that pulls the clay and the water out together. Dog smells come out with the pet urine and odour treatment at +$40 when there is urine involved, and a plain wet-dog rug just needs the standard clean. Damp-room rugs get a thorough extraction and we lift them afterwards so you can see the floor is dry. Most rugs are dry within 2–4 hours; give a shag rug 4–6. We tell you up front which stains will lift and which have dyed the fibre, and we work 7 days so an end-of-lease clean can fall on a Sunday.

Magill questions

Asked in Magill

Will the red dirt from the Morialta tracks come out of our cream lounge rug?

Mostly, yes. Clay soil responds to a targeted pre-spray and repeated extraction, and a synthetic rug gives up the colour well. If it has been walked in for months and the pile has worn, some shading can remain, which we will show you before starting so there are no surprises.

We are students in a Magill share house. Can you clean the rug before our lease ends?

Yes. Book a day or two before the final inspection so the rug is dry and settled. We treat spots, traffic marks and any drink spills in place, and tell you honestly if anything is permanent. Extra rugs in the same visit are 10% off, which helps when the whole house is moving out.

Services & guides

How it works

Our 5-step in-home rug clean

  1. 1

    Check the rug

We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.

  2. 2

    Dry vacuum both sides

Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.

  3. 3

    Pre-treat

A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.

  4. 4

    Hot water extraction

Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.

  5. 5

    Groom & dry

Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.

Questions

Straight answers

How much does rug cleaning cost in Adelaide?

We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.

Do you clean rugs in my home or take them away?

In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.

What kinds of rugs do you clean?

Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.

How long does a rug take to dry?

Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
