How Much Does Rug Cleaning Cost in Adelaide?

Almost no Adelaide rug cleaner publishes a price, which makes it hard to know whether a quote is fair. Here is what the market actually charges, what drives the number, and what we charge.

The short answer

In Adelaide, professional cleaning of an everyday synthetic or cotton rug in your home costs roughly $70–$120 for a small rug or runner, $100–$180 for a 2 × 3 m lounge rug and $180–$320 for an oversized rug. Specialist off-site washing of wool, Persian or silk rugs runs higher — commonly $30–$50 per square metre plus pick-up. Our prices: runner $69, 2 × 3 m rug $139, 3 × 4 m rug $219, cleaned in your home.

What decides the price

What Adelaide cleaners charge

National marketplace data puts the average Adelaide rug clean at a little over $200 per job, with most jobs between $80 and $350. One established Adelaide cleaner quotes a 3 × 2 m rug anywhere from $55 to $230 depending on fibre and condition, which tells you how wide the range is before someone has looked at the rug. Lead-generation sites advertise “from $29” and then apply a call-out minimum well above that. Specialist rug laundries that immersion-wash wool and Persian rugs have historically charged in the order of $30–$50 per square metre, with a minimum around $200 including collection and a turnaround of a week or two.

Our Adelaide prices

Add-ons per rug: pet urine and odour +$40, heavy stain treatment +$30, Scotchgard +$30–50, sanitise and deodorise +$30, mould treatment +$40, fringe detail +$20. Minimum booking $89; every extra rug in the same visit 10% off. Those prices are for synthetic, cotton and machine-made rugs cleaned in your home. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted, silk, viscose, jute or hide rugs — for those, budget for a specialist laundry at the per-square-metre rates above.

Is it cheaper to hire a machine?

A Rug Doctor hire is around $40–$60 for the day plus $20–$40 of solution, so for one rug it is cheaper on paper. In practice the hire machines put more water in than they take out, which is how rugs end up with tide-marks, a musty smell and a wet floor underneath, and you are doing the work. For two or more rugs, or any rug with pet urine, a professional clean at $69–$139 is close in price and far better in result. We go through this honestly in the Rug Doctor hire vs professional guide.

Is it worth cleaning or should I replace it?

A 2 × 3 m synthetic rug from a chain store is $150–$400 new; the same size in a good machine-made design is $400–$1,200. Cleaning at $139 makes sense for anything you paid more than about $250 for, anything you like, and anything that is only dirty rather than worn through. Replace when the backing is cracking, the pile is bald in the traffic lane, or urine has soaked a rubber backing many times. If you are unsure, send us a photo — we will tell you if it is not worth our visit.

Common questions

People also ask

How much is rug cleaning per square metre in Adelaide?

In-home hot water extraction of synthetic rugs works out at roughly $18–$35 per m² depending on size band — our 2 × 3 m rug at $139 is about $23/m². Specialist off-site washing of wool and Persian rugs is commonly $30–$50 per m² plus collection.

Why won’t most rug cleaners give a price online?

Because fibre and condition change the job, and because a vague “from” price gets the phone to ring. We solve it differently: we publish prices by size for the rugs we clean, and we are upfront that we do not clean the delicate fibres that need a different price list.

Is there a call-out fee?

Not with us — the minimum booking is $89 and that is the whole price for a small rug. Many Adelaide cleaners advertise a low rug price and add a call-out or minimum of $80–$120 in the fine print, so ask before you book.
