Rug cleaning in Plympton, SA 5038

Plympton sits between Anzac Highway and Marion Road with the Glenelg tram running along its edge, which is why so many of its residents are commuters who walk to a tram stop. The original housing is 1950s and 60s cream and red brick on wide streets, and infill has arrived steadily: pairs of townhouses, hammerhead subdivisions and small unit groups behind the old houses. Weigall Oval is the local park, and a mix of young couples, renters and long-time residents share the streets.

The 1950s homes have polished boards or carpet in the front rooms and a lino or tiled kitchen, and the rug habit is a lounge rug plus a runner down the hall. Townhouses and units built since the 2000s are tiled or floating-floor downstairs with carpet up, and a rug under the lounge and another under the dining table are what stop the room echoing. Renters bring a rug or two with them and a rubber-backed mat for the front step. Most of what we see is polypropylene, polyester and the odd cotton flatweave, all of which we clean in place.

Living near Anzac Highway and Marion Road means a steady fall of fine traffic dust that settles into rugs and dulls them evenly, so people do not notice until a rug is lifted and the floor underneath is a different colour. Entry runners take grit from the footpath and the tram stop. Tiled townhouses echo, so rugs get bought big and are rarely moved, and a spilled coffee or glass of wine on the dining rug sits until it sets. Rentals turn over regularly, and the rug that came with the lease is often the one that needs attention most before a bond inspection.

Traffic dust comes out well with a thorough double-sided vacuum followed by hot water extraction, which flushes the fine particles out of the pile instead of redistributing them. We rinse the products out so the rug is not left with a residue that attracts the next layer. A 2.4 × 3.4 m extra large rug under a dining setting is $179, cleaned where it sits with the moisture pulled straight back out of the tiles. For dining rugs that take regular spills, Scotchgard protection at +$30 gives you time to blot before a stain sets. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours, and we work around tram timetables and shift hours, 7am–7pm, 7 days.

Plympton questions

Asked in Plympton

I am a renter in Plympton. Can you clean the landlord’s rug before I move out?

Yes, and we will tell you before we start what is likely to come out and what will not, so there are no surprises at the inspection. We can only clean synthetic, cotton and machine-made rugs; if the landlord’s rug is wool or jute we will say so and suggest a specialist laundry.

Why is the floor under my rug a different colour to the rest of the tiles?

Fine dust works through a rug from both sides, and the tiles around the rug get mopped while the ones underneath do not, so the covered tiles stay cleaner or, if the rug has a rubber backing, go slightly yellow. The rug itself has the same dust through it, which is what the extraction clean removes.

Services & guides

How it works

Our 5-step in-home rug clean

  1. 1

    Check the rug

We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.

  2. 2

    Dry vacuum both sides

Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.

  3. 3

    Pre-treat

A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.

  4. 4

    Hot water extraction

Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.

  5. 5

    Groom & dry

Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.

Questions

Straight answers

How much does rug cleaning cost in Adelaide?

We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.

Do you clean rugs in my home or take them away?

In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.

What kinds of rugs do you clean?

Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.

How long does a rug take to dry?

Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
