Family rug cleaning in Parafield Gardens

Parafield Gardens filled in during the 1970s and 1980s, and most streets still show it: single-storey cream and red brick homes with carports, concrete driveways and a lemon tree out the back. The local shops along Martins Road and Kings Road are where people run into each other, and light aircraft from the airfield next door are part of the background noise. Families from many backgrounds have settled here over the decades, and a lot of homes hold three generations, which makes for busy living rooms and well-used rugs.

The original floors in these houses are a mix of carpet in the bedrooms and lounge and vinyl or tiles in the kitchen and family room. Over the years many have been retiled right through, and a rug has gone down in the lounge to take the chill off in winter. The most common piece is a large machine-made rug, often with a bold pattern, under the couch and television. Hallways get a runner, and there is frequently a rubber-backed mat at the back door where the shoes come off. We clean the polypropylene, polyester, cotton and machine-made rugs in all of these homes, in place or out on the driveway if you prefer.

Plains dust is the constant in Parafield Gardens. Hot north winds carry it in through flyscreens and under doors, and a dark rug on tiles shows a grey film within a week while a light one hides it in the pile. Big family meals mean curry, rice and sauces dropped near the dining table and trodden across the rug. Where the grandparents mind the young kids during the day, there are juice spills and the occasional accident. Rubber-backed door mats go stiff and start to smell once grease and dust build up, and the smell carries into the house.

We start with a thorough dry vacuum to pull the loose dust out of the pile, because extraction works far better on a rug that is not full of grit. The hot water pass then lifts the embedded dirt and cooking residue, and dropped food and juice marks come out as part of the standard clean. For homes with young kids, the sanitise and deodorise add-on is a sensible extra. Most rugs are dry in two to four hours, and with a hot afternoon and the back door open it is often quicker. We are happy to clean the rug on the driveway if that is easier for you.

Parafield Gardens questions

Asked in Parafield Gardens

Our rug has a strong cooking smell in it. Can that be cleaned out?

Usually yes. Cooking oils and spices settle into the fibre and the backing, and a proper hot water extraction removes most of it. Adding the sanitise and deodorise treatment at +$30 helps with what remains. If the backing itself is saturated we will tell you what to expect before we start.

Will you clean a rubber-backed mat as well as the big rug?

Yes, rubber-backed rugs and mats are on our list. We clean them with the same extraction and they dry on a flat surface. Any extra rug in the same visit is 10% off, so it makes sense to do the door mats while we are there.

Services & guides

How it works

Our 5-step in-home rug clean

  1. 1

    Check the rug

We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.

  2. 2

    Dry vacuum both sides

Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.

  3. 3

    Pre-treat

A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.

  4. 4

    Hot water extraction

Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.

  5. 5

    Groom & dry

Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.

Questions

Straight answers

How much does rug cleaning cost in Adelaide?

We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.

Do you clean rugs in my home or take them away?

In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.

What kinds of rugs do you clean?

Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.

How long does a rug take to dry?

Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
