Mitcham · SA 5062
Stone villas around the Mitcham village, boards under every good rug and a cold winter creeping up from the creek — in-home rug cleaning in Mitcham.
Grit, stains and pet smells — lifted out of the rug, not covered up.
Local service
Mitcham is one of Adelaide’s oldest villages, and the heritage area around Albert Street and Princes Road still has its stone cottages, churches and the old institute, with Brown Hill Creek winding through the reserve below. Belair Road climbs past the shopping centre towards the hills, and the housing on the slopes is bluestone and sandstone villas, 1920s bungalows and a scattering of 1960s homes on the larger blocks. It is settled, established and leafy, with families who have been here a long time.
Villas in Mitcham have wide hallways, high ceilings and original pine or baltic boards, so a runner in the hall and a large rug in each formal room are standard. Many of those rugs are wool or hand-knotted, and we tell people straight that those belong with a specialist laundry rather than with us. The rest, the machine-made wool-look rugs in the living room, cotton flatweaves in bedrooms and the children’s rugs in a converted sleep-out, are exactly what we clean in your home. Renovated kitchens at the back are often tiled, with a big synthetic rug under the family table.
The foothills bring mud. Winter walks through Mitcham Reserve and along the creek come back on boots and paws, and the hall runner takes it first. Stone houses are cold and slow to warm, so rugs on boards hold damp through winter and smell musty by August. Leaf litter from the old trees and gums blows in through doors left open in autumn. Family rooms collect red wine from long dinners and crumbs from children, and an old rug in a formal room may have a sun-faded half from a north-facing window. None of this is dramatic; it is slow build-up in homes people look after.
We clean machine-made rugs on the boards where they lie with a low-moisture hot water extraction pass and pull the water straight back out, so old floors stay dry, and we lift the rug before we leave to check. Mud on a hall runner lifts with a pre-spray and extra passes. In a cold stone house drying takes longer, so we book mornings, suggest the heater or a fan, and lift an edge for airflow; expect 2–4 hours, longer in the depths of winter. A large 2 × 3 m lounge rug is $139 and every additional rug done in the same visit is 10% off, which suits a villa with four rugs.

Mitcham questions
No, and we would rather say so than risk it. Hand-knotted Persian, Oriental and wool rugs need a specialist rug laundry with the right washing and drying, and that is not what an in-home extraction clean is for. We are happy to clean the machine-made rugs elsewhere in the house in the same visit.
Yes, but it takes longer in a stone house in July than in a brick home in summer. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, then recommend a morning booking, a fan or heater in the room and an edge lifted onto a chair. Thick rugs may take closer to six hours in winter.
How it works
We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.
Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.
A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.
Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.
Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.
Questions
We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.
In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.
Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.
Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
A 2 × 3 m rug is $139 in Adelaide, cleaned in your home. 7 days a week.
