Gum-tree blocks, wood heaters and a winter’s worth of ash on the lounge rug — in-home rug cleaning in Blackwood, with every price published.
Grit, stains and pet smells — lifted out of the rug, not covered up.
Local service
Blackwood sits on the ridge where the roundabout joins Main Road and Shepherds Hill Road, with the train station and shops at the centre and Belair National Park and Wittunga Botanic Garden on its edges. The blocks are big and sloping, covered in stringybark and blue gum, and the homes are mostly 1950s to 1970s brick and timber with a few older stone places and newer builds in between. It is a hills suburb with a village feel, where wood smoke hangs in the gully on winter evenings.
Houses here were built with carpet, and the carpeted lounge is still common, with a rug laid in front of the wood heater to protect the carpet from sparks and ash. Renovated homes have boards or tiles with a big synthetic rug under the couch and a runner in the hall. Nearly every back door has a rubber-backed mat for muddy boots and the dog, and most families have a playroom rug in a rumpus room downstairs on the slab. Hallway runners, kids’ rugs, shag rugs and indoor-outdoor rugs on the deck are all things we clean in place.
Ash is the Blackwood rug problem. Fine ash from the heater settles on the hearth rug all winter, gets walked through the house, and leaves a grey cast and a smoky smell that vacuuming does not shift. Gum leaves, bark and twigs come in on every pair of shoes. Winter mud from the park and the garden builds up on the back-door mat and the hall runner. Rugs on a slab in a downstairs rumpus room can hold condensation and go musty, and the family dog, fresh from the creek, adds wet-dog smell to whatever rug it chooses. Bushfire-season dust in summer finishes the cycle.
Ash and soot need a different pre-spray from ordinary soil, and plenty of rinsing so the grey does not just spread; hot water extraction does that well, and the smoky smell goes with the residue. Sanitise and deodorise at +$30 helps a rug that has sat by a heater all winter. Runners and door mats are quick jobs: a runner is $69, and we can do it along with the lounge rug in the same visit. Rugs on a cold slab are lifted after cleaning so the floor dries too. We work 7 days and most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours, with a fan or the heater on in a hills winter.

Blackwood questions
If it is synthetic and the pile is not scorched, cleaning is usually worth it, because ash is a fine dry soil that extraction rinses out well. We will look at it before we start and tell you if there are burn marks or melted fibres that will not come back. A new rug costs more than the clean.
Yes. Slabs are fine with a little moisture, and we extract most of the water as we go. The thing to watch is drying: a cold slab slows it down, so we lift the rug onto a chair or roll it back for an hour, and suggest a fan. If the backing is already mouldy we will tell you.
How it works
We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.
Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.
A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.
Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.
Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.
Questions
We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.
In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.
Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.
Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
A 2 × 3 m rug is $139 in Adelaide, cleaned in your home. 7 days a week.
