Family rug cleaning in Enfield

Enfield is changing faster than almost any suburb in the inner north. The 1940s and 1950s Housing Trust homes that filled it after the war, brick and freestone-fronted on wide blocks, are being replaced street by street with pairs and rows of two-storey townhouses, while the remaining originals are bought up and renovated. Main North Road and Regency Road form the busy edges, and the quieter streets in between hold a mix of long-term residents, young renters and new owner-occupiers who have just moved in.

The surviving Trust homes have hardwood floors that renovators polish and leave bare, with a large machine-made rug in the lounge and a cotton flatweave in a bedroom. The townhouses are tiled on the ground floor and carpeted upstairs, so the living room rug sits on porcelain tiles and the entry has a runner to catch what comes off Main North Road. Renters in the older homes often have a polyester or shag rug straight on original boards that have not been sealed in years. These are all synthetic or cotton rugs we clean in place, and in a townhouse we carry the smaller ones to the back courtyard if that suits.

The construction on every second block in Enfield puts a lot of dust in the air, and it ends up in the rugs of the neighbours, particularly on anything near a front door or an open window. Traffic grime from Main North Road adds to it. In a new townhouse the ground-floor rug is often the first thing to show that the house is lived in: a red wine ring, a coffee splash, the dog’s spot by the glass door. In the older rentals the rug on unsealed boards can hold damp through winter and develop mildew underneath, and nobody notices until it is lifted for a move.

We dry vacuum thoroughly first to get the building dust out, then run the hot water extraction pass to lift what has worked into the pile. On tiles the rug is cleaned where it lies and the floor is dry when we leave. On old boards we keep the moisture low and lift the rug afterwards to check. Mildew on the backing gets our mould and mildew treatment at +$40, and we will tell you honestly if the backing is beyond saving. Wine and coffee spots are included in the standard clean. Allow two to four hours to dry, and a large lounge rug is $139.

Enfield questions

Asked in Enfield

We just moved into a new townhouse in Enfield and the rug is already grey from building dust next door. Will that keep happening?

While the neighbouring build is on, yes, some dust will keep coming in. We get what is there out properly, and in the meantime a front door mat and a weekly vacuum keep most of the new dust on the surface, where it is easy to deal with.

The rug in my rental has black spots on the underside. Is that mould and can you clean it?

It is usually mildew from moisture trapped between the rug and the floor. We treat it with our mould and mildew add-on and dry the rug fully. If the spots have eaten into the backing or the smell is through the whole rug we will say so before you spend any money.

Services & guides

How it works

Our 5-step in-home rug clean

  1. 1

    Check the rug

We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.

  2. 2

    Dry vacuum both sides

Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.

  3. 3

    Pre-treat

A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.

  4. 4

    Hot water extraction

Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.

  5. 5

    Groom & dry

Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.

Questions

Straight answers

How much does rug cleaning cost in Adelaide?

We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.

Do you clean rugs in my home or take them away?

In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.

What kinds of rugs do you clean?

Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.

How long does a rug take to dry?

Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
