Grand bluestone villas off Brougham Place, cottages on Tynte Street and the flats along O’Connell Street — in-home rug cleaning in North Adelaide, dry in a few hours and without the rug leaving the house.
Grit, stains and pet smells — lifted out of the rug, not covered up.
Local service
Sitting on the rise across the Torrens from the city, North Adelaide was laid out with the same squares and Park Lands as the CBD and has kept more of its original stone than almost anywhere in Adelaide. Lefevre Terrace and Brougham Place are lined with two-storey villas and mansions; the streets between O’Connell Street and Melbourne Street hold rows of single-fronted cottages; and the 1960s and 70s left blocks of flats near the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, now joined by newer apartments along Melbourne Street.
Floors here are the real thing: wide baltic pine or jarrah boards in the villas, slate or encaustic tiles in entrance halls, and a long passage down the middle of nearly every cottage. The big houses often have a serious rug in the formal front room, which is frequently a hand-knotted wool or Persian piece we do not clean and will say so plainly, pointing you to a specialist. What we do clean is the rest of the house: the machine-made rug in the family room, the runner in the passage, the cotton flatweave in a child’s room, and the polypropylene rugs that doctors, nurses and students in the flats put down over old carpet or lino.
A long hallway runner in a North Adelaide cottage is a traffic corridor from front door to kitchen, and the middle goes dark while the edges stay clean. Dogs walked around the Park Lands or down to the river come home with wet paws. Entertaining is part of life around Melbourne Street, and red wine on a cream family-room rug is a familiar Sunday morning discovery. Older houses also have older damp: a rug on stone or on boards over a cellar can hold a musty smell that no amount of airing shifts.
Because the floors underneath matter, we keep the water low and extract hard, so boards and old tiles are dry when we lift the rug to check before leaving. Traffic lanes on runners get a pre-spray and extra passes; musty rugs get the sanitise and deodorise treatment at +$30, which deals with the cause rather than masking it. Dry time is 2–4 hours for most rugs and we work 7 days, 7am–7pm, so a hospital roster or a weekend is fine. We tell you honestly on the day if a stain will not fully lift. Fringed runners can have the fringe and edge detailed for an extra $20.

North Adelaide questions
We will clean the synthetic one in your home and give it the full treatment. The Persian we will not touch, because hand-knotted wool needs a specialist rug laundry with proper wash and dry facilities, and we would rather tell you that than risk it. We can still do your runners and other machine-made rugs on the same visit.
In the room where it lies, which is how most North Adelaide jobs go. Our machine comes through the front door, we protect the floor, and extraction removes the water as we work. If you have a rear courtyard with pavers we can clean it out there instead, but it is not needed.
How it works
We read the label or test the fibre, check the backing, the stains and the smell, and tell you honestly what will lift — and whether it is a rug we should be cleaning at all.
Grit sits at the base of the pile and grinds the fibres every time you walk on it. A slow vacuum, both sides, gets it out before anything gets wet.
A pre-spray for the traffic lanes, enzyme for pet urine and organic stains, targeted treatment for wine, coffee and ink.
Heated solution in, dirt and water straight back out in the same pass. Low moisture, so the floor underneath stays dry.
Optional sanitiser or Scotchgard, then we groom the pile so it dries evenly. Most rugs are dry in 2–4 hours.
Questions
We price by the size of the rug. A runner or small rug up to 2 m² is $69, a medium rug (2–4 m²) $99, a large 2 × 3 m lounge rug $139, an extra large rug (6.5–9 m²) $179 and an oversized 3 × 4 m rug $219. Pet urine treatment, heavy stains, Scotchgard and sanitising are optional add-ons from $20–$40, all on our price table. The minimum booking is $89, every rug after the first in the same visit is 10% off, and the price is confirmed before we start.
In your home. We bring a hot water extraction machine to you and clean the rug where it lies, or on a tiled floor, verandah or driveway if you prefer. There is no pick-up, no wash plant and no week without your rug — it is back in use the same day.
Synthetic rugs (polypropylene, polyester, nylon, acrylic), machine-made wool-look rugs, cotton flatweaves, shag and high-pile synthetic rugs, kids’ rugs, hallway runners, outdoor rugs and rubber-backed mats. We do not clean wool, hand-knotted Persian or Oriental, silk, viscose, jute, sisal, sheepskin or cowhide rugs — those need a specialist rug laundry, and we will tell you so rather than risk your rug.
Most synthetic rugs are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours, thick shag and cotton closer to 4–6. We extract as much water as the machine will pull, groom the pile, and tell you how to speed it up — lift one edge onto a chair for airflow underneath, a fan across the surface, and no furniture back on it until it is fully dry. Book a morning slot and you are walking on it that evening.
A 2 × 3 m rug is $139 in Adelaide, cleaned in your home. 7 days a week.
